RAYE is set to grace the stage of Saturday Night Live as a musical guest on April 6. Actress and comedian Kristen Wiig is scheduled to host the show, with RAYE joining the ranks of other prominent artists who have performed on SNL this year, including Ariana Grande, Justin Timberlake, Megan Thee Stallion, Reneé Rap, and 21 Savage. The news was announced by the London-born singer, who posted a photo template of three post-it notes on X/Twitter, which is frequently used by the show to reveal the host, musical guest, and date that will be aired live.
This marks RAYE’s first appearance on the popular live sketch show, which adds to her growing list of accolades earned over the past year. Her chart-topping song “Escapism” was featured in her debut album, My 21st Century Blues, and the album saw the singer shortlisted for the 2023 Mercury Prize Award and nominated for seven BRIT Awards. At the recently concluded BRIT Awards, RAYE became the first artist to win six awards in a single night, including Song of the Year, Best R&B Act, Best New Artist, and Songwriter of the Year. During her acceptance speech, RAYE called on music executives to allow songwriters to receive royalty payments and hit out at industry executives for underpaying songwriters while taking huge profits for themselves.
Following her record-breaking wins, RAYE spoke to NME about the milestone and receiving praise from artists she has looked up to since childhood, including Kylie Minogue. She shared that it was an incredible feeling to realize that other musicians were finding solace in her art, calling it a full-circle moment of dreams.
