The popular K-pop girl group BLACKPINK has become the first K-pop girl group ever to cross one billion streams on the music platform, Spotify. This achievement was made by their popular song ‘How You Like That’, released in 2020. The song has been added into Spotify’s official ‘Billions Club’ playlist, which includes other hit tracks that surpassed one billion streams on the platform.
The BLACKPINK member, Lisa, had previously joined Spotify’s ‘Billions Club’ in September 2023 with her viral solo song ‘Money’. Other K-pop songs on the ‘Billions Club’ playlist include BTS songs ‘Dynamite’, ‘Butter’, and more, as well as ‘Seven’ by BTS singer Jungkook.
Jennie, another member of BLACKPINK, also accomplished a great feat by becoming the first female K-pop solo singer to cross one billion views on YouTube for her music video, ‘Solo’, released in 2018. Oddly enough, she launched her own agency called Odd Atelier in December 2023, weeks after she and her BLACKPINK bandmates decided not to renew their solo contracts with long-time agency YG Entertainment. However, they will continue to make group activities as BLACKPINK under the K-pop label, after signing a new “exclusive contract.”
On the other hand, Wendy of Red Velvet has released her sophomore solo mini-album ‘Wish You Hell’ alongside a music video for its title track, which is her first release since her debut solo mini-album ‘Like Water’ in 2021. Wendy’s mini-album features five tracks, including the title track ‘Wish You Hell’. The music video for the track showcases Wendy’s vocal abilities, as she hits powerful high notes throughout the song and demonstrates her charisma and talent.
BLACKPINK and Red Velvet are popular K-pop girl groups that have been making waves in the music industry, gaining a massive fan base worldwide. Their unique styles and musicality have made them standout artists in the K-pop industry, and fans eagerly await their new releases
