The world of music is mourning the loss of Anthony ‘Baby Gap’ Walker, who gained fame for his work with The Gap Band. The musician passed away at the age of 60 following complications from a neck surgery. News of his death was first confirmed by TMZ.
Walker was performing with GapX, which includes members of his former band, at the time of his death. His former bandmates paid tribute to him on Instagram, sharing a post that read: “The Band will miss our friend, brother, and band mate Anthony ‘Baby Gap’ Walker. Gone too soon. We will never forget you!!!”
The Gap Band was originally formed in 1967 in Oklahoma by brothers Ronnie, Charlie and Robert Wilson. They released their debut album, ‘Magicians Holiday’, in 1974 and their self-titled album in 1979, which achieved commercial success with R&B hits like “Shake” and “I’m in Love”. Walker joined the band later that same year, contributing as a performer, songwriter, dancer and choreographer. He remained with the group for 23 years.
Apart from his work with The Gap Band, Walker collaborated with several other artists including Rick James and George Clinton. In 1985, he worked with bandmate Billy Young and Charlie Wilson on the project Billy & Baby Gap.
