Belgian police have prevented an alleged terrorist attack on Brussels music venue Le Botanique concert hall. Three minors and an adult were detained on 3 March after the foiled attack. The suspects were aged between 15 and 18 and were thought to have links to Islamic extremism following a federal investigation. All the suspects are from Belgium.
The planned attack was allegedly scheduled to take place in the weeks following the arrests. The suspects reportedly met online and spoke via group chats. No weapons or explosives were found, but laptops and phones were confiscated for further investigation.
The 18-year-old suspect appeared in court the following day and was charged with “participating in the activities of a terrorist group and preparatory acts with a view to committing a terrorist attack”. The three remaining minors were brought in front of a judge in Dendermonde, East Flanders.
Le Botanique concert hall confirmed on 4 March that it was the subject of the planned attack. The venue has pledged to take additional security measures to ensure the safety of the public, the artists and the staff.
Despite the planned attack, events will continue as normal with continued security measures in place, the venue confirmed. Scheduled to perform at the venue in the coming weeks are Lord Apex, Mike, Joy Anonymous, TAAHLIAH, Florentino, BAMBII, and The Orb.
