A crossover event for the long-running sci-fi looter shooter game, Destiny 2, has been announced by developer Bungie. The crossover with the Ghostbusters franchise is set to launch on 19 March, with players now able to get their hands on a Slimer skin for their Ghost, an Ecto-1 hoverboard and a horned Sparrow. It’s unclear how these items will be unlocked by players yet.

The Slimer skin covers the entirety of the player’s Ghost, with the machine peeking through the blob’s maw. Ecto-1 appears to be a skin for the hoverboards added to Destiny 2 earlier this month. These new hoverboards, called Skimmers, are now considered the game’s best vehicle due to how long they allow players to stay in the air for and their high top speed.

The Sparrow skin included in this crossover doesn’t appear to have a great deal of Ghostbuster charm. Though it does have some horns, it lacks the whimsy of Slimer or Ecto-1. Nevertheless, it constitutes more stuff for players to collect in a game that, as a looter shooter, is defined by that very aspect.

Several months ago, in December 2022, Bungie had a partnership with the developers of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla that resulted in helmets inspired by the hooded assassin garb from the Ubisoft series being added to Destiny 2, giving players’ Guardians a more fashionable look.

News of this partnership follows a turbulent few months for Bungie. A report from December 2023 suggests the studio could be looking at a full takeover by parent company Sony. This followed news of expansion The Final Shape being delayed to June 2024 to make it “bigger and bolder,” and layoffs at the company in October 2023. Though Bungie has pledged to “restore [the] trust” of its community, only time will tell if the studio can deliver on that promise
