Nottinghamshire Police put in special measures by watchdog

Nottinghamshire Police has been placed on special measures by a watchdog, the His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS). The force has been asked to produce an improvement plan as a matter of urgency. The “engage” process, which involves an increased level of monitoring, will be implemented.

The inspection dates back to the end of 2023 and January, and the full findings are yet to be shared with Nottinghamshire Police. However, the HMICFRS has highlighted two “accelerated causes for concern”. These are the force’s failure to conduct effective investigations and provide adequate victim support, and inadequate governance arrangements.

The Chief Constable, Kate Meynell, has acknowledged the severity of the report’s findings. Inspector of Constabulary Roy Wilsher said Nottinghamshire Police would be provided with additional support to facilitate improved service provision. The engage process aims to address concerns that have not been adequately dealt with or resolved.
