Nintendo has announced the upcoming release dates for two highly anticipated games: an HD remaster of Luigi’s Mansion 2 and a remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Luigi’s Mansion 2, originally released for the 3DS in 2013, will feature enhanced visuals and is set for release on June 27, 2024, as part of the annual MAR10 day celebrations. Meanwhile, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, first released for the Gamecube in 2004, will be remade with improved graphics and is slated for release on May 23.
These two games are currently the only first-party releases confirmed by Nintendo for 2024, leading some to speculate that a new console, the Nintendo Switch 2, may be on the horizon. The company also announced the upcoming addition of three classic Gameboy titles to the Nintendo Switch Online Library: Dr. Mario, Mario Golf, and Mario Tennis.
During the presentation, Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Mario, revealed that Nintendo is working on a sequel to the 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie, set to be released in April 2026. Miyamoto promised that the film would “broaden Mario’s world further,” while Chris Meledandri of Illumination stated that the animation process would be approached with meticulous attention to detail.
