Irish singer-songwriter CMAT performed at BBC’s 6 Music Festival at O2 Victoria Warehouse in Greater Manchester over the weekend, where she was joined on stage by John Grant for a rendition of ‘Where Are Your Kids Tonight?’.CMAT, who has been compared to Dolly Parton by reviewers, also played tracks from her two studio albums, ‘If My Wife New I’d Be Dead’ and ‘Crazymad, For Me’.The festival, which began on Friday, saw headliners including Gossip and Young Fathers cover classic tracks, while Alison Moyet made her first live appearance in over a year.
CMAT recently lost out to Lankum at the Choice Music Prize for the best Irish album of the year, but the ceremony sparked controversy after RTE cut Lankum’s acceptance speech, in which they called for direct action against Israel and solidarity with the Palestinian people, from its podcast release due to “technical issues” caused by the broadcast overrunning. CMAT criticised the broadcaster for the omission.Brit Awards-nominated CMAT spoke to NME at the event, revealing her obsession with Kylie Minogue’s alternative sound. “For me, she was just this beacon of weirdness.
