Police shut down Joyce Manor show and arrest fans for moshing

Police put a stop to Joyce Manor’s performance at the Collective Con event in Jacksonville, Florida on Friday night due to moshing and crowd-surfing. Alongside punk bands Glazed and Porch Coffin, the Californian band was supposed to perform at the Underbelly venue, but a last-minute location change moved their stage to the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center. During the event, venue staff tried to discourage people from crowd-surfing, but it did not have any effect on the excited audience, who continued to cause disruptions. The security guards and eventually the police ordered the show to be shut down.

Reports suggest that a video also shows police handcuffing an individual on the ground, and one fan advocated for them on Twitter. Glazed posted on the social media platform criticizing Jacksonville’s Sheriff’s Office for their handling of the violence which occurred during the Joyce Manor performance. While commenting on the incident, one person tweeted that it was surprising the punk show was expected to proceed without moshing.

Joyce Manor comprises Barry Johnson, Chase Knobbe, and Matt Ebert. They have released six studio albums, the most recent being 2022’s 40 oz. to Fresno. The band is currently touring in the US, with the following dates on their schedule: Savannah, GA’s Lodge of Sorrows on March 9, Augusta, GA’s Grantski Records on March 10, Columbia, SC’s New Brookland Tavern on March 11, and Greenville, SC’s Radio Room on March 12. The tour resumes on March 14 in Asheville, North Carolina and ends with a show in Garwood, New Jersey on March 17. In June, the band will perform at various events in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. They will also play at Manchester’s Outbreak Fest from June 28 to 30 and will appear at Canela Party in Torremolinos, Spain, from August 21-24
