Humberside Police are investigating a funeral director after receiving “a report of concern for care of the deceased”. Officers are present at three branches of Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in Hull and Beverley, where cordons have been put in place. While the investigation is ongoing, police have urged anyone who is concerned to contact them, and have said they don’t think it’s linked to any other Legacy Funeral Directors at this stage. According to the company’s website, Legacy Independent Funeral Directors is a family-run business that has been operating since 2010.
“Our investigation is in the early stages,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Simon Gawthorpe, “but we understand this information is likely to be concerning to a number of families and individuals who have lost loved ones and have utilised the services of this business. We have already spoken to a number of people and are working closely with the relevant authorities to establish the facts.”
Gawthorpe added that the police force had set up two helpline numbers for those worried about the investigation and called on individuals to be “respectful and refrain from speculation”. He stressed that, “at the core of this investigation will potentially be heartbroken and devastated families and loved ones and we want to provide them with the consideration and support they need and are fully entitled to.”
While the police have not disclosed any further details, anyone who is concerned can call their direct telephone line. This is a developing story, and Legacy Independent Funeral Directors has yet to comment. The company needs to provide their side of the story to help with the investigation
