‘Ms. Marvel’ star Iman Vellani wants ‘The Young Avengers’ movie next: “The world is her oyster”

Iman Vellani, the star of Disney+ series Ms. Marvel, has discussed what she would like to see for her character’s future, revealing her interest in playing a part in The Young Avengers and an Avengers movie. Speaking at the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards in Tokyo, the actor also revealed her interest in writing comic books and her upcoming limited series for Ms. Marvel, called Mutant Menace.

Vellani’s six-episode series ended on June 8th and precedes the events of the 2023 movie, The Marvels. Vellani will reprise her role as Kamala Khan in the blockbuster film. The actress was praised for her performance in both projects, and shared that she had been working on writing comic books as of late.

The limited series, Mutant Menace, released its first issue on March 6th, and Vellani described it as being “very Spider-Man-esque.” She told fans to expect “crazy” throwbacks to the 2014 comics, likely during a conversation about potential easter eggs and references to look out for as readers follow Kamala’s latest adventures.

Ms. Marvel was praised for its casting, including Vellani’s strong portrayal of Kamala, and the series was also lauded for its ability to create a sense of real family dynamics between Kamala and her on-screen parents, Muneeba and Yusuf. This is no doubt due to the standout performances by Zenobia Shroff and Mohan Kapur, as well as those of Saagar Shaikh as Kamala’s brother, Aamir.

It’s clear that Vellani has a bright future ahead, with the success of Ms. Marvel propelling her into the MCU pantheon of superheroes. Whether or not Kamala will get her wish of joining the Avengers team remains to be seen, but fans are surely looking forward to seeing what happens next, both on the page and on screen
