Mikey Roynon: Teens found guilty of killing 16-year-old boy

The trial of three teenagers accused of killing Mikey Roynon, a 16-year-old boy from Bristol, with a large zombie knife at a house party has ended in guilty verdicts. The murder occurred on June 10, 2023, during a dispute at a house in Bath, and the defendants were found guilty of manslaughter and murder respectively. The individual found guilty of murder claimed self-defense in court but still received a conviction.

Despite the fact that the convicted individuals were all 16 years old at the time of the murder, they will still face sentencing for their crimes. Mikey’s mother, Hayley Ryall, expressed relief that her son had received justice and noted that the teenagers responsible “got what they deserved.” She went on to say that while it won’t bring Mikey back, the conviction has created a small sense of justice for him.

During the six-week trial, the jury was shown CCTV footage of the defendants traveling from Wiltshire to Bath for the party. Sharp objects were visible beneath their clothing, which the prosecution argued was evidence of them arriving at the party armed. The defendants later discarded their weapons, but police were still able to recover two of the weapons.

The case is a stark reminder of the dangers of carrying knives and weapons, particularly for young people. Detective Inspector Mark Newbury of Avon and Somerset Police called it “utterly unconscionable” that teenagers would bring knives to a birthday party and lamented the tragic loss of life that resulted.

The three convicted teenagers will be sentenced on May 3
