The forthcoming Disney+ original series, “Blood Free,” lead by Ju Ji-hoon and Han Hyo-joo, has revealed new plot details. It is set in a future where humans no longer consume natural animal meat. Instead, the market is controlled by biotechnology company BF Group, which produces artificially cultured meat. The story explores what happens when sceptics of the company emerge and create turmoil both internally and externally.
Ju Ji-hoon stars in the series as Woo Chae-woon, a former soldier-turned-bodyguard who graduated from the elite naval academy. Han Hyo-joo plays Yoon Ja-yu, CEO and co-founder of BF Group. Other cast members include Lee Moo-saeng as BF Group co-founder On San, Lee Hee-joon as the prime minister, and Park Ji-yeon as an employee of BF Group.
The series does not yet have a trailer or stills available, but is set to premiere on Disney+ in regions where the streaming service is available. In the US, it will likely be available on Hulu, as with most Disney+ original K-dramas.
“Blood Free” was part of Disney+’s announcement in February 2024, detailing its slate of original K-dramas for the year. Other series will include “The Tyrant,” “Gangnam B-Side,” “Uncle Samsik,” and more.
Disney+ Singapore has teased the show on Twitter, writing, “Conspiracies, conflict and cultured meat. One brilliant woman and her protector face the dangers of a #BloodFree future. Catch a brand new series on 10 April on #DisneyPlusSG.”
