The new documentary series, titled The Program: Cons, Cults and Kidnapping, has just been released on Netflix. The series delves into the dark events experienced by former students at a private disciplinary boarding school in upstate New York between 2001 and 2009. The Academy at Ivy Ridge, which was marketed as a safe haven for troubled teens, was actually an environment that forced students to participate in cult-like activities while enduring both physical and emotional abuse.
Directed by Katherine Kubler, herself a survivor of Ivy Ridge, The Program takes viewers on a journey back to the academy, as Kubler reunites with a number of her former classmates. “I made this series because there really was nothing out there to help explain what had happened to me to my friends and family to warn them about these places,” Kubler explains. “So now, that resource exists.”
