Sofia Boutella, who starred in the highly criticized science fiction film Rebel Moon directed by Zack Snyder, has responded to the negative reviews. In an interview with Vulture, Boutella explained how daunting it was to endure the harsh reviews that the film received on its release on Netflix last year. She stated that it was hard to see the project being demolished to such an extent. Although she is proud to have been a part of the film, the criticism affected her, especially when she thought about all those who put so much heart, tears, and sweat into the project.
Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child Of Fire stars Sofia Boutella as fearsome warrior Kora, who crash lands on a moon and starts a new life among a peaceful settlement of farmers. She becomes their only hope of survival after they find themselves entangled with a tyrannical leader, played by Anthony Hopkins, who is on a journey of self-discovery. The film also stars Charlie Hunnam, Michiel Huisman, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Cleopatra Coleman, Jena Malone, and Ed Skrein.
Upon the release of the film, The Guardian branded the film a “disaster” and criticized the lack of character development, nondescript greenscreened locations, and “stultifyingly generic plot.” IGN was also scathing, writing that despite a great ensemble cast, Zack Snyder’s space opera is let down by a derivative patchwork script, mediocre action sequences, and a superficial story that fails to live up to its expansive promise. The Independent described Snyder’s sci-fi movie as an “incoherent shambles,” adding that it is a film populated by some of the Justice League Snyder Cut filmmaker’s worst impulses.
Nevertheless, Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming conclusion to Rebel Moon, called Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver. The film is set to stream exclusively on Netflix on April 19 of next year and will serve as the continuation and conclusion to Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child Of Fire
