‘MultiVersus’ teases a revival after 8 months of silence

Player First Games’ popular fighting game MultiVersus, which originally launched in 2022 and was taken offline in June 2023, is hinting at a relaunch, with social media accounts posting a message saying, “*taps mic* testing, testing, 1, 2, 3” on March 5, 2024. MultiVersus features popular Warner Bros. characters battling it out, and was the highest-grossing game of July 2022, with more than 10 million players when it launched via open beta.

However, in March 2023, Player First Games founder Tony Huynh confirmed that MultiVersus would shut down and remain offline until 2024, saying it was “an important learning opportunity for us and a stepping stone to the next phase of MultiVersus”. He added the studio had “a clearer view of what we need to focus on, specifically the content cadence of new characters, maps and modes to give you more ways to enjoy the game, along with updated netcode and more matchmaking improvements”.

This prompted a backlash from some players who had spent money on characters, skins, and multi-season battle passes, without the offer of a refund.
