Daft Punk’s ‘Random Access Memories’ named “most collected release” on Discogs

Discogs, the music release database, has reported that Daft Punk’s fourth and final album together, ‘Random Access Memories’, has become the “most collected release”. The original 2xLP vinyl pressing of the album, released in 2013, has been catalogued in almost 68,000 Discogs users’ record collections. The report was released to commemorate Discogs reaching the milestone of 750 million catalogued records in the Discogs Collection Tool.

‘Random Access Memories’ was named the best-selling album of the 2010s on the online vinyl marketplace in 2019. In 2021, a limited-edition deluxe vinyl box set of the LP was sold for $2,139 on Discogs, making it one of the 30 most expensive items sold on the site that year. The French electronic duo announced their breakup the same year.

Vinyl is the most collected music format on Discogs, with 70% of users collecting it over CDs and cassettes. The Beatles are the most collected artists, with more than 4,700,000 vinyls collected. Taylor Swift’s five LPs; ‘Folklore: The Long Pond Sessions,’ ‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)’, ‘Midnights’ (Jade Green Pressing), ‘Midnights’ (Moonstone Blue pressing) and ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ were the most collected albums of the 2020s.

Daft Punk’s breakup was covered by NME after the announcement in 2021, with Thomas Bangalter admitting he was “relieved” over the way that the band ended. A recent interview with a Daft Punk collaborator indicated that the duo is sitting on a lost album that would have been a follow-up to ‘Random Access Memories’. Bangalter has also been in the news for revealing that he bought a ticket from a tout to his own Daft Punk gig outside of the show and was announced as the composer for the DAAAAAALÍ film soundtrack on January 9 via Ed Banger Records. Additionally, last November Daft Punk released the drumless edition of ‘Random Access Memories’.

In conclusion, Discogs recently revealed that “Random Access Memories” is the most collected release with the original vinyl pressing remaining in thousands of users’ collections. It marks another milestone for Discogs who has catalogued 750 million records to date. The report also highlighted that vinyl is the most collected music format, and The Beatles are the most collected artists. Lastly, Bangalter’s revelation of odd occurrences related to his own music career has made for interesting headlines lately
