On The Rise: Bloomsday

NYC-based Iris James Garrison’s ‘Place to Land’ is their debut, self-produced album that came out in June 2022, which largely centers on figurative and literal transitions. The album focuses mainly on finding yourself, your identity, and your place in the world. Eventhough Bloomsday released only one single, “Jersey Soccer,” via Hardly Art’s 15th Anniversary Singles Series, but their self-produced album gave a distinctive and a unique flavour of their music.

On June 7, 2024, Bayonet plans to launch their sophomore LP, ‘Heart of the Artichoke,’ together with their first single, “Dollar Slice,” out now. Alex Harwood, Richard Orofino, Babehoven’s Maya Bon, Hannah Pruzinsky, Tomberlin’s Chris Daley and Lomelda and Hovvdy’s Andrew Stevens contributed to the production of the album, which was co-produced by Babehoven’s Ryan Albert and mixed by Slow Pulp’s Henry Stoehr. Bloomsday’s collaborators make for a diverse range of people adding colour to the album.

Bloomsday has recently been featured in Rough Trade On The Rise, Rough Trade’s dedicated curation that puts a spotlight on rising artists whose music they are excited about and believe their audience will be too. Bloomsday’s ‘Heart Of The Artichoke’ is set to be out on June 7th on Bayonet Records. People can read the interview about the musician’s journey to stardom and hear it in Bloomsday’s own words.

There are five questions and five responses in the Five by Five interview section. Bloomsday is described as candid, catchy, warm, twangy, and melodious. Among the five records that the artist listened to before creating the album, are Dragon New Warm Mountain by Big Thief, Boat Songs by MJ Lenderman, and A Collection of Bird Songs by Acre Memos. Bloomsday’s achievement highlights include opening for Courtney Barnett, playing their first music festival, playing Bowery Ballroom, playing a factory-packed LA show at the Echo opening for Becca Mancari, and hearing their music played on WFUV. Their five VIP guests for a pre-release listening party for the album, who could be dead or alive, are Carole King, James Taylor, Adrianne Lenker, Arthur Russell, and Alanis Morrisette. Finally, the top five essential tour snacks include plain sourdough pretzels, snap pea crisps, vegan chickpea cheese puffs, beef jerky and the whole foods hot food bar.
