Country music is now considered a mainstream genre and Irish singer CMAT thinks that’s great news for the industry. Speaking to NME at the Brit Awards, the rising star praised artists like Lana Del Rey and Beyoncé for their new-found love of country music. CMAT herself is a big fan of the genre and calls herself a “country music maker”. She explained that seeing established artists move towards the genre has been vital in promoting it to a wider audience. She has even praised Del Rey’s John Denver cover and believes the artist will do well in the genre.
CMAT is also planning on releasing new music soon. She recently came out with her second album “Crazymad, For Me” which was met with critical acclaim. The album is described as “earnestly raw and playfully absurd”. Additionally, CMAT revealed that she is working on some new music and has just come back from the studio. She mentioned that she has a lot of touring ahead of her, including festival appearances in the UK and America. Tickets are already available on Ticketmaster for those interested in seeing her perform live.
Despite CMAT’s love of country, there is only one woman who has captured her heart – Kylie Minogue. CMAT spoke about her admiration for the pop icon at the Brit Awards and even said that she could start a religion devoted to her. Minogue was given the Global Icon Award on the night and CMAT shared how she inspired her growing up. She found Minogue’s music to be alternative and strange, different to the music she was exposed to on the radio, which really spoke to her. CMAT called her the “beacon of weirdness” and believes she is the most important woman in her life.
CMAT may be an up and coming artist but she is definitely one to watch out for. With a growing fanbase and new music on the horizon, CMAT is set to take the music world by storm
