Sinéad O’Connor estate calls out Donald Trump for using her music

Donald Trump has been requested to stop using Sinead O’Connor’s famous song, “Nothing Compares 2 U” during his political rallies by her estate and record label Chrysalis, as she would have been both “hurt” and “disgusted” by the usage of her music. O’Conner lived her life according to moral principles and codes of honesty, kindness, fairness, and all the things that humans should follow, according to the joint statement by the estate and the record label. She referred to Trump as a “biblical devil,” and any form of connection between her and Trump’s political rallies would have been intolerable.

Sinead O’Connor passed away last year in July at the age of 56. The police confirmed that she was found unresponsive at her home in London, and it was later confirmed that she died of natural causes. A host of famous people including Garbage, Billy Corgan, Michael Stipe, and Bono paid tribute to O’Connor after her death. Meanwhile Duncan Jones, David Bowie’s son, reacted to Trump using his late father’s song to soundtrack his campaign, speaking out against it publicly.

Other artists, such as Johnny Marr, have similarly called for Trump to stop using their music at his political rallies. Marr expressed his dissatisfaction with the Smiths song “Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want” being used. A number of famous musicians have also spoken out against Trump’s use of their music, including Rihanna, Queen, and Adele.

Sinead O’Connor has been put forward as a 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominee, along with Oasis, Ozzy Osbourne, Mariah Carey, Jane’s Addiction, and others. Trump has been under heavy criticism from many musicians, and various artists who he has utilized music from have demanded that he stop using their intellectual property
