Machine Gun Kelly has changed his stage name to mgk, according to recent updates on his profiles across various streaming services including Spotify and YouTube, as well as his Twitter account. The pseudonym Machine Gun Kelly, a moniker he has used since he began his music career and which he selected because of his rapid-fire delivery, is represented by his new initials. His latest single, Don’t Let Me Go, was released under this new name in February.
Baker’s previous comments and online activities prior to this name change suggested that he might have been going by “machine” instead. Last year, during one of his shows, the comedian duo Chad and JT held up a sign that read “change your name!!!,” to which Kelly had no reaction. Chad and JT requested that he remove the “Machine Gun” in his name in order not to glorify machine guns, which the audience met with cheers.
MGK’s previous full-length release was “Mainstream Sellout” in 2022, with his first US Number One album on the Billboard charts preceding that in 2020, titled “Tickets To My Downfall.” He spoke to NME in 2020 as part of The Big Read, stating that the same album could be the reason why bands of newer generations would headline festivals like Coachella, given the youthful reception it has received.
Furthermore, in a recent post on social media, the rapper and rocker displayed his new tattoo, a black block covering up his previous inkings with a blank cross on his chest, for spiritual purposes. Roxx, the tattoo artist, noted that upwards of 13 six-hour sessions were spent on it. In contrast, his new razor blade signature guitar caused him some backlash in January, but Machine Gun Kelly declined to explain his art and accepted that art interpretation was subjective
