Cage The Elephant has announced the release of its new album ‘Neon Pill’, which is set to be the band’s first full-length album in five years. The album follows the success of its 2019 Grammy-winning album ‘Social Cues’ and is set to be released on May 17. The Kentucky-based six-piece has promised to offer fans something new while retaining the signature sound that has become synonymous with the band. Cage The Elephant has offered a taster of the album by releasing the single ‘Out Loud,’ which is the second song to be released following the title track.
The new single, ‘Out Loud,’ is the emotional centrepiece of the album, and frontman Matthew Shultz has said the inspiration for the song came from the death of his father. The song was deeply rooted in paying homage to his father and subtly working through the difficulties he was going through at the time. The singer also revealed that the album was about Cage The Elephant honing in on their own sound and being comfortable in their own space.
The announcement comes ahead of the band’s lengthy North American tour, which will include 45 shows across the country, opening with a slot in Salt Lake City on June 20. Tickets for the shows are available on Ticketmaster. The band’s frontman, Matt Shultz, recently opened up about his mental health woes that led to his arrest in 2023 for illegal possession of two loaded guns. Shultz, who pleaded guilty to possession of a weapon, was later handed a no-jail plea deal.
Cage The Elephant has come a long way since its formation in 2006. The band has received numerous accolades, including a Grammy and an MTV Music Award, and ‘Neon Pill’ should be another indicator of the band’s growth and evolution
