Prince Harry has lost his High Court bid against the UK government regarding his security protection while in the country. The former working royal sought to overturn a decision that saw his security status downgraded after his departure from royal duties. The Duke of Sussex’s legal team had asserted that there was unfairness in the decision-making process. However, the Home Office stated that all security decisions were handled on a case-by-case basis.

Prince Harry and his family were previously provided with 24-hour protection, but this was downgraded after he resigned from royal duties. In January 2020, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan revealed their plan to step back from their senior royal roles in an announcement that shook the monarchy. They moved to the US, and Harry gave up all four of his military patronages and other positions.

The Prince has been a vocal critic of the British press and has previously spoken out about what he considers intrusive media attention. He launched a personal attack on the tabloid press in a 2019 statement, accusing them of “waging campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences.” Since then, he has said that there is a “toxic” relationship between the media and his family.
