The Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has paid out over £101m in compensation relating to maternity failings between 2006 and 2023, including legal fees. The majority of the money was paid out in damages to families who proved that the death or injury of their baby was due to medical negligence. The trust is currently the subject of the UK’s largest-ever maternity review. The review is examining hundreds of baby deaths and injuries. Experts suggest that the trust must invest more in learning from its mistakes to prevent further tragedies.
