Liam Gallagher, former Oasis frontman, has once again lashed out at Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and its nominees this year, telling those behind the honour to “fuck off”. Gallagher commented on the Hall of Fame after Oasis for the first time ever was nominated as one of the acts in this year’s nominees. Others included Foreigner, Ozzy Osbourne, Jane’s Addiction, Dave Matthews Band, Mary J. Blige, Eric B. & Rakim, Kool & the Gang, Sade, Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, Sinead O’Connor, Peter Frampton, A Tribe Called Quest, and Cher. Following the nominees’ reveal, Gallagher shared some flippant thoughts about the Rock Hall on Twitter. Gallagher also asked fans on Twitter not to vote for Oasis.
In a new interview with The Sunday Times, alongside Stone Roses guitarist John Squire, Gallagher shared ungracious comments about the nomination. He told the outlet that “As much as I love Mariah Carey and all that, I want to say: do me a favour and fuck off,” referencing Carey being another first-time nominee this year. Gallagher added that being included in the Rock Hall was like putting him in the rap hall of fame. He also said he didn’t want to be part of anything that mentally disturbed and he had done more for rock n’ roll than half of them.
In the interview, Gallagher also shed some light on the possibility of an Oasis reunion. He said that he is open to the idea of reuniting, but only if his brother, Noel, reaches out to him to show they’re on the same page. Gallagher also mentioned that he loves his brother and family and there was no need for the split in 2009 backstage argument that led to their split. Gallagher’s upcoming projects this year include a collaborative album with Squire and an upcoming tour with the Stone Roses member. Gallagher will also embark on a tour to celebrate 30 years of Oasis‘ seminal 1994 album, ‘Definitely Maybe’, playing the tracklist in full. The tour dates include a headline slot at Reading & Leeds.
Despite being nominated for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the awards attributed to it, Gallagher stood firm in his previous insight, calling the award a load of bollocks. Although Gallagher has always been vocal about the awards, his 2024 nomination caused him to lash out at a flurry of tweets. With the world still grappling with COVID-19 and its consequences, award nominations seem like a first-world problem
