The Free Nationals have released their latest single ‘Gangsta’, featuring Anderson .Paak and A$AP Rocky. The jazz-infused track marks the first time the Californian R&B and funk group have worked in the studio with A$AP Rocky, although .Paak has appeared with the band on several occasions as a live guest. The accompanying video features the trio represented by youngsters who need to defend themselves in court. The Free Nationals are reportedly working on more new music and a follow-up to their Grammy-nominated debut album, which featured contributions from .Paak, Kali Uchis, Syd, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra.
Described as “supreme musicianship” by NME, the band is set to appear alongside .Paak at the 2022 New Orleans Jazz Festival. Meanwhile, .Paak is currently hosting Apple Music’s second season of his live-music showcase and comedy programme .Paak’s House, featuring different guests each show, with recent appearances from K-pop band aespa trying to assemble a drum kit, with mixed success. The artist’s latest album, released under the Silk Sonic banner, was his 2021 collaboration with Bruno Mars, called ‘An Evening with Silk Sonic’, and does not feature on his official solo releases.
As for A$AP Rocky, the rapper revealed that Rihanna is continuing to work on her ninth album after celebrating Valentine’s Day with her in Paris. Rocky’s own release ‘Don’t Be Dumb’ is expected soon, although a specific launch date has yet to be announced
