Henry Moores, a 21-year-old plasterer from Cheshire, is planning to walk from Manchester to Ibiza, a journey of over 2,355km, because he cannot afford a flight to the Mediterranean island. His aim is to attend the May 3 opening party at Ocean Beach, which he estimates will take 60 days to reach by foot, beginning his walk from Manchester city centre on March 2. Moores contacted Ocean Beach owner, Wayne Lineker, on Instagram with the idea, to which Lineker expressed disbelief before saying that they would celebrate with drinks if he was serious.
Lineker has since confirmed that a group will meet with Moores on May 2 to walk the final 30km from Ibiza Town to Ocean Beach. Along the way, Moores will walk 507km from Manchester to Portsmouth, then an additional 1,818km from Caen, France to Denia, Spain. He plans to walk a marathon every day, covering an estimated 40km per day. Last year, Moores walked from Macclesfield to Paris, raising more than £20,000 for charity.
DJ Charlie Sloth has announced that his alcohol brand, AU Vodka, will be the official and exclusive sponsor of “Henry Walk.” Money raised during Moores’ trek will go to the Tony Hudgell Foundation, which supports children impacted by physical, emotional, or psychological abuse. Moores has created a Just Giving campaign for the walk, with a goal of £20,000 for the charity.
The Tony Hudgell Foundation aims to provide professional support to children affected by adversity and provide a voice to raise public awareness and challenge social prejudice. Its founder, Tony Hudgell, lost his legs as an infant as he suffered severe abuse at the hands of his biological parents. Despite being told that he would never walk, the foundation aims to help children achieve their own goals in the face of adversity
