The live-action adaptation of the anime classic Avatar: The Last Airbender has been released on Netflix, but the question remains: will there be a second season? The series follows Aang, the last survivor of the airbender tribe, as he trains to become the Avatar and protect the world from the authoritarian rule of Firelord Ozai. The show stars Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, and Dallas Liu in the lead roles.
Netflix has not yet confirmed whether there will be a second season of Avatar: The Last Airbender. If the show proves to be successful, it is likely that it will be recommissioned, but the producers may have to be creative about how it is filmed. The first season was filmed in 2022, with its teenage stars aging as the show progresses. Kiawentiio was 14 when filming began and is now 17, while Gordon Cormier was 11 and is now 14.
The original animated series ran for three seasons between 2005 and 2008, while a critically-savaged film adaptation was made in 2010 by M. Night Shyamalan. In a three-star review of the new show, NME praised the crazed fantasy and its ability to banish memories of the previous film.
“All three seasons of the animated series essentially take place in the course of one calendar year,” said producer Tim Hedrick. “There was no way we could do that. So we had to design this first season, especially, to accommodate the possibility of some time elapsing between the first and the second season.”
While there is still no official word on the future of Avatar: The Last Airbender, many fans are eagerly anticipating a second season if the show is renewed. Regardless of what happens next, the live-action adaptation has brought new life to a beloved series and introduced it to a new generation of viewers
