The United Kingdom has been hit with heavy rain and strong winds, causing flood warnings to be issued. Yellow weather warnings have been issued for the Midlands, Humber, Yorkshire, southern and south-east England due to rain falling on water-logged ground. Train services across the country have been disrupted and roads have been rendered treacherous, causing several school closures in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
The Environment Agency has reported flooding on many roads and railways, with drivers urged to exercise caution on roads affected by large puddles and spray. The Met Office has also issued a yellow weather warning for wind in East Anglia, southern, central, and south-east England, with gusts up to 60 or 70mph expected. The number of flood warnings has risen to 70 in England, with flooding being expected in many areas.
Disruption has been reported on CrossCountry, Great Malvern, Transport for Wales, West Midlands Railway services, Great Western Railway, and East Midlands Railway services. All lines between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton have been blocked, with replacement bus services in operation until 5:30 pm. The wet weather is being driven by a deep area of low pressure crossing northern France.
The Met Office has warned of a slight chance of power cuts and some damage to buildings. A spell of gale to severe gale-force winds is expected, particularly near the coastal areas. More rain is expected to fall on ground which is already water-logged, with another 10 to 20mm likely to fall through Thursday. The RAC has urged drivers to slow down and increase stopping distances due to hazardous conditions on the roads
