According to James Hawes, a director for Apple TV’s “Slow Horses,” it is predicted that within three to five years, an AI-generated television show will be created. Hawes stated that he has discussed this topic with legal teams at SAG-AFTRA and the WGA. During a brainstorming session with other directors and VFX workers in which the possibility of a fully AI series was explored, the tentative timeline was agreed upon. If given an instruction such as “Create a scene in an ER room where a doctor comes in and he’s having an affair with a woman and they’re flirting, and someone is dying on the table,” an AI system could start creating it. Hawes voiced concerns regarding the consequences of not advancing AI technology in regards to creating stories, suggesting that without adaptation, AI-generated stories may originate from elsewhere. Hawes cautioned that Silicon Valley is already ahead. Hawes is not the only director with unease concerning AI, as director Tim Burton stated seeing recreations of his work by AI as disturbing. He reflected on this after seeing AI reimaginations of his versions of Disney characters and how it affected him.

Wes Anderson has also rejected AI reproductions of his work due to a viral TikTok trend last year. Anderson believes that overexposure to someone else’s perception of his intentions could influence his future work, negatively affecting his style. Anderson prefers to avoid and protect himself from content that could potentially hinder his creativity.
