A record label based out of Barcelona, Balmat, has announced the debut collaborative album “Projections of a Coral City” by Miami-based Coral Morphologic and Nick León. The five-track album will be available both digitally and on vinyl beginning April 5th. The first track ‘Deep Call’ has already been released and is available to listen to now.
Coral Morphologic is known for their work in marine biology through music, art, and other multimedia projects, including an underwater live webcam showcasing Miami’s marine life and reef ecosystem. The installation of a projection mapping showcased by Coral Morphologic over the Miami skyline in 2022, which demonstrated how the city might look, if neglected. The imagery projected signs of warning on the walls of the Knight Concert Hall warning of rising sea levels and “colonised reefs” drew attention.
The debut album ties together many themes, using watery soundscapes against moody and ambient electronic textures over the five track span. The album takes influence from other aquatic-inspired musicians and composers like Dr. Roger Payne’s ‘Songs of the Humpback Whale’, Harold Budd’s, ‘liquid piano’ compositions, and Jurgen Mueller’s ‘Science of the Sea’.
Projections of a Coral City marks the first collaboration between Coral Morphologic and León. Pre-orders are open on Balmat’s website.
