Emma Stone has confirmed that she will never tell a Taylor Swift joke again following backlash she received for comments made backstage at the Golden Globes. Speaking to Variety, the actor acknowledged that her joke had been taken out of context and offered an apology. Stone also spoke about her long-time friendship with Swift, whom she has known for almost two decades. Earlier this year, Stone described Swift’s “Eras Tour” as “incredible” while appearing on The Graham Norton Show.
In her interview with Variety, Stone addressed the moment when she was asked about Swift at a press conference following the Golden Globes. After being asked about the “Shake It Off” singer, who was in attendance at the event, Stone joked: “What an asshole, am I right?” Though she intended it as a joke, some of Swift’s fans were offended and accused Stone of being disrespectful. Stone said that she had seen the headlines and it had changed her behavior.
Stone also spoke about the strength of her friendship with Swift, noting that they had met at an awards ceremony when they were both starting out as actors.
