Richard Hawley has unveiled his upcoming studio album, ‘In This City They Call You Love’, which is set to be released on May 31 via BMG. The 12-track album features ‘Two For His Heels’ as the opener, which the singer-songwriter has shared today. The track is described as an atmospheric and cinematic song about a deal that goes wrong and presents a “low blues rumble reminiscent of Link Wray and Duane Eddy”. Fans can pre-order/pre-save the album now.
The new album is Hawley’s 10th and follows on from his 2019 album ‘Further’. Hawley’s distinct soulful voice rings across the LP’s 12 outstanding tracks. ‘In This City They Call You Love’ features “multi-coloured” songs with a focus on “what voices can do together”, with Hawley deliberately limiting his guitar solos to enhance the sound of the music and lyrics.
The title of the album comes from one of the forthcoming songs titled ‘People’. It focuses on Sheffield’s “proud industrial past and the enduring determination of its citizens”. The album is described to feature “gorgeous melodies and arrangements”, with many of the songs on the record being among the “finest ballads he’s ever written and recorded.”
In other news, last October saw Richard Hawley release a career-spanning compilation album entitled ‘Now Then: The Very Best Of Richard Hawley’ and the singer-songwriter will be embarking on a UK and Ireland headline tour in May. Tickets are available now on Ticketmaster
