Blur announce intimate Coachella warm-up show

Britpop legends Blur have announced an intimate show ahead of their highly-anticipated appearance at the Coachella music festival. The band took to social media to share the exciting news, revealing that the warm-up show will take place at California’s Fox Theatre on April 10th, just three days before they are scheduled to hit the stage at Coachella on April 13th. The gig will mark one of the band’s first US shows in close to ten years, with their last US appearance taking place in New York back in 2015.

Jockstrap will open the show, with tickets set to go on general sale on March 1st. The announcement comes after Albarn, Blur’s frontman, expressed his desire to bring the band’s campaign to an end back in December 2022. Speaking to NME, Albarn stated that “It’s too much for me. It was the right thing to do and an immense honour to play these songs again.” However, the gapless year of heavy gigging in the UK, Europe and South America has attracted a whole new generation of fans, with excitement for the band’s performance at Coachella at fever-pitch.

Elsewhere, it was recently reported that Blur will release a new documentary and concert film charting the group’s huge 2023 reunion. The two new films, titled Blur: Live at Wembley Stadium and The Ballad of Blur, have been added to Altitude’s European Film Market and will be released in cinemas later this year. Blur’s The Ballad of Darren was released in 2023, with NME calling it “memorable and touching.
