A new immersive exhibition titled “move/003” is set to celebrate Black and LGBTQIA+ communities in rave culture. The ten-day exhibition has been curated by London-based independent art curator fynn studio and world-renowned DJ, SHERELLE, and is powered by Dazed, Spotify, and AIAIAI. The show will run from March 1 at Dazed’s space, 180 The Strand.
According to Dazed, the exhibition is a sensory journey that explores the physical and psychological landscape of a night out and documents the relationship between community, music, and art. Move/003 celebrates the contributions of entrepreneurism, culture, and art from the Black and Queer communities to nightlife.
The exhibition will showcase the experiences of members of the community, including Ugandan activist and artist DeLovie Kwagala, UK funky pioneer Roska, Parisian photographer Teddy Dally, and the team behind East London’s largest Black-owned music venue, Colour Factory. Additionally, several Black and Queer emerging artists, including Nia Archives, Loraine James, Kareem Ali, Karen Nyame KG, TAAHLIAH, and Otik, have been invited to perform DJ sets.
SHERELLE set up her label, BEAUTIFUL, in 2021 to create opportunities for emerging Black and Queer artists. The label has since partnered with AIAIAI to offer free studio sessions in North London. SHERELLELAND, a brand new EU and UK tour, was also announced by the DJ last month.
Overall, the exhibition is a significant tribute to the trailblazers who have shaped the evolution of African-British sounds, nightlife, and beyond. Through documenting the contributions of Black and Queer communities to the club culture, the exhibition amplifies historically marginalized voices and enables visitors to celebrate the vibrant culture with music, art, and photography
