Purple pioneer Joker releases his first solo work in six years

Joker, the pioneer of dubstep and purple sounds, has unveiled his first solo work in six years. The two singles, ‘Juggernaut’ and ‘S Wave’, are available digitally or as a two-side limited edition black vinyl, released through his label Kapsize. Joker, real name Liam Sylvester McLean, is renowned for his role in shaping the purple sub-genre, drawing on grime and dubstep influences.

Joker’s music has already gained support from BBC Radio 1’s Benji B and Radio 1Xtra’s Sir Spyro. The Bristol-based artist’s last solo work was in 2018 when his Kapsize label celebrated its ten-year anniversary with three double-track releases.

In addition to his new music, Joker has also announced that he will stream his 2009 set at Sonar as part of the Never Sleep charity tape series, in aid of local Bristol charity The Cause. The mix is described as “timeless, cutting edge and a slight hint of nostalgia for any Sónar Festival aficionados.” It will be released on March 29.

Joker has also collaborated with Grammy-winning artist Skrillex on production work for ‘Tears’, which featured on the ‘Quest for Fire’ album.
