Director Michael Winterbottom has dismissed the idea of creating another series of “The Trip” despite calls from stars Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan, who suggested recording a new season in America. The hit show ran for two series on BBC Two from 2010 to 2014. Two more aired on Sky Atlantic and Sky One, with the most recent being “The Trip To Greece” in 2020. Last year Coogan proposed filming a new series with Brydon before meeting Winterbottom. Brydon has also expressed his interest in continuing the show in the future.
Winterbottom recently spoke to NME and denied the possibility of another season of “The Trip” by saying: “I don’t think any more trips. Steve and Rob were always keen on America but it’s too big! I think it’d be better to go smaller. Wales for Rob! But no, there’s no more trips.” Coogan previously suggested that the show should be filmed in Wales and Ireland. Winterbottom will soon release his latest film “Shoshana”, starring Russian actress Irina Starshenbaum as a left-leaning newspaper journalist living in Tel Aviv during the 1930s who becomes romantically involved with Tom Wilkin (Douglas Booth), an assistant superintendent with the British Palestine Police.
“Shoshana” is Winterbottom’s first movie since 2019’s “Greed”, which also featuring Coogan and earned four stars from NME. The new release opens in UK cinemas on Friday, February 23
