A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 64-year-old man died following an assault. South Wales Police were called to reports of a serious assault in Belmont Walk, in the Butetown area of Cardiff just after 9:00 GMT on Sunday morning. Sadly, the 64-year-old later died, confirmed by the force.
According to Det Ch Insp Matt Davies, the crime would “cause shock to the close-knit community”, and appealed for witnesses. Davies also added that “we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident” and an early arrest had been made to reassure the public.
During the investigation, officers closed local roads around Cardiff Bay and pedestrians were asked to avoid the area, causing disruptions. Reports say that a police cordon was put up near the Penarth Road.
The incident has created a sense of deep sadness for locals, with many expressing concern and distress on social media. The victim was a member of the Butetown community, and the community has voiced their grief and condolences.
