Police in Bristol have arrested a woman on suspicion of murder after the discovery of three dead children at a house in the city. Officers were acting on a welfare check call when they attended the scene in Blaise Walk, Sea Mills. The children, said to be young, were found dead at the house. The arrested woman is currently detained in police custody at a local hospital.
The police have described the incident as involving “prior police contact” and have informed the Independent Office for Police Conduct about it. A statement from Avon and Somerset Police said that the children’s loved ones would be sent support via a family liaison unit. Meanwhile, Detective Inspector John Arthur said: “We’ve started a full investigation and our neighbourhood teams will be conducting reassurance patrols in the area over the next few days”. Police have yet to disclose further details surrounding the circumstances of the three deaths.
A nearby resident of Blaise Walk, Caroline Baker, said: “We’re totally shell-shocked. It’s a very quiet road. It’s terrible, especially when it’s children involved.” Guy Williams, who also lives nearby, added: “There were about four or five police cars and an ambulance, and later a forensic support van… It’s just really tragic, I feel so sorry for the kids’ family”. The incident occurred in a suburban neighbourhood of the city known for its large green spaces and houses with gardens and off-street parking.
The tragedy has prompted an outpouring from across Bristol and beyond. Mayor Marvin Rees issued a statement on social media saying: “The death of three young people in Bristol is heart-breaking, and we are all thinking of the family and wider community who are coming to terms with this devastating news.” Members of the public have left flowers and messages near the family home as a sign of respect
