Luton Town hosted Manchester United at Kenilworth Road over the weekend, with Harry Styles and Ezra Koenig, frontman of Vampire Weekend, in attendance at the match. The two musicians were apparently invited to the Premier League game by Rob Stringer, CEO of Sony Music Entertainment, one of the directors of Luton Town FC, and both artists are signed to Columbia Records, which is owned by Sony.
Despite Luton falling behind early on with two goals from Manchester United, the home side managed to score before half-time thanks to Carlton Morris. Manchester United held on to their lead in the second half, winning the game 2-1. But before the match, Styles took photos with pundits and presenters from Sky Sports, including Jamie Redknapp and Gary Neville.
In other news, Vampire Weekend recently announced a massive 2024 North American tour to promote their upcoming fifth album, Only God Was Above Us, which is set to be released on April 5. The band have already released two tracks from the new record, Capricorn and Gen-X Cops. Meanwhile, Styles was reportedly in consideration for a part in the upcoming Mean Girls reboot, with one of the film’s directors suggesting he could have played the role of Glen Coco, the character who inspired the famous line “You go, Glen Coco!”.
Fans at Kenilworth Road also noticed the celebrities’ presence, with one tweeting at Sky Sports for not noticing Koenig in the crowd. Luton Town FC, however, welcomed Styles with a tweet and a photo. It remains to be seen whether the musicians will continue to attend football matches in the future
