Legendary footballer Éric Cantona has announced the release of his first live album, entitled ‘Cantona Sings Éric – First Tour Ever’, which is set to be released on March 29. Drawing inspiration from his debut tour in 2023, the album will feature 17 tracks from multiple dates of his shows, including songs from his debut EP and ‘I Love You So Much’, a love letter to Manchester United fans. The album’s lead single, ‘The Friends We Lost,’ which was recorded live at the Alhambra in Geneva in March 2023, has already been released. The album can be pre-ordered here.
Speaking about why he decided to enter the music industry, Cantona said: “Music has always been a part of my life. I’ve always had music playing. Why start today, so many years later? Simply because I had lacked the time before. During lockdown, I finally managed to give the guitar a serious go, and even though I’m still a poor guitarist, I felt confident enough to whip a few songs into shape.”
Cantona will be playing another UK and Ireland tour from April, starting in Dublin’s Liberty Hall on April 10th and finishing in Manchester’s Palace Theatre on April 20th. Tickets for the shows can be purchased via this link.
Cantona first hinted at a career in music last year, which led to the release of his debut EP ‘I’ll Make My Own Heaven,’; he also played his first live shows. The four-track EP features inspiration from prominent musicians such as Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen. “J’écris pour exister car il n’existe que moi pour écrire ainsi…writing,” he said describing the EP.
In conclusion, the retired Manchester United legend has combined his love of music with his storied football career. Fans will be eager to listen to his debut album and to see his upcoming shows
