Legendary musician Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters fame is set to release a Bad Brains cover with Anthrax’s Scott Ian and Charlie Benante as an exclusive Record Store Day 7 inch. Under the name G.B.I., the trio will release a cover of Bad Brains’ ‘The Regulator.’ Only 3000 copies of the vinyl will be pressed, with proceeds going towards the healthcare of Bad Brains vocalist HR, who suffers from a rare neurological disorder called SUNCT.
According to Scott Ian, the cover came to be when Anthrax and Foo Fighters were coincidentally recording simultaneously at Studio 606. After bumping into Grohl, Ian suggested a Minor Threat or Bad Brains cover by text the next day, to which Grohl “replied immediately with the Spotify link for ‘The Regulator.’” The trio then “ripped the Regulator live in 2 takes, the way it should be! It was so much fun to get to play with Dave on drums and to hear his voice with my guitar! We’re all such huge Bad Brains fans and have asked WWBBD? (What would Bad Brains do?) many times. Hope you get a copy!,” Ian shared on Instagram.
Record Store Day is set to return on April 20, 2024, with this year marking the 17th edition of the event. In other news, Grohl will soon embark on Foo Fighters’ ‘Everything or Nothing’ US stadium tour, with his US arena tour scheduled for later this year.
Grohl is also set to feature on St. Vincent’s upcoming album, which the artist describes as sounding “urgent and psychotic, in equal parts the most caustic sound and also, I think, the most sonically blooming. It’s high stakes and intentional.”
Apart from Dave Grohl, The 1975, David Bowie, Daft Punk, Blur, Lily Allen, Gorillaz, Elton John, Paramore and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will also release exclusive one-off collectible items for Record Store Day.
The G.B.I. trio’s vinyl collaboration is a noteworthy addition to the seemingly endless stream of releases that the event has become known for, which continuously draws large crowds of music enthusiasts year after year
