After a decade-long stint at BBC Radio 1, presenter Jordan North is set to leave the station. While North has not yet commented on his departure, Jamie Laing is confirmed to be his replacement. Best known for his appearance on reality show “Made in Chelsea,” Laing previously worked at BBC Radio 1 during Mollie King’s maternity leave and called working there “an absolute dream.” He is set to start as the new host of Radio 1’s drivetime show with Vick on March 4.
Radio 1 announced North’s departure in a post on social media, calling him “a constant source of inspiration for younger presenters” who has been involved in “some of the most hilarious and entertaining moments on air.” Meanwhile, Radio 1 Head Aled Haydn Jones praised North as “an amazing presenter and valued colleague” who has successfully connected with Radio 1’s audience through his shows and projects.
North has been co-hosting Radio 1’s drivetime show with Vick since 2021, introducing popular segments such as Something Songs, Complete the Year, and Judge Jordan. He previously worked at Rock FM and Capital Manchester, and was also a runner-up in the 2020 series of “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!” In addition to his work in radio and television, North currently co-hosts the popular podcast “Help I Sexted My Boss” with etiquette expert William Hanson.
Following the announcement of North’s departure, several Radio 1 presenters paid tribute to him online. Charlie Hedges called North “such a beautiful human and amazing broadcaster,” while Sam McGregor said he would be “missed a truck load.” Jack Saunders commented that the news was “not how I wanted to end my week,” while Melvin Odoom wrote that North is “not just a great presenter but a really good guy too.”
