Elle King, known for her hit song “Ex’s & Oh’s,” received criticism for her recent drunk tribute performance to Dolly Parton. The incident occurred during Parton’s 78th birthday celebration in January at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. During King’s performance of Parton’s 2001 song “Marry Me,” she was slurring her words and confessed to being “fucking hammered.” In a recent interview with Extra, Parton addressed the event and urged fans to “forgive that and forget it and move on.”
Despite the incident, Parton expressed her support for King, calling her a great artist who has been going through tough times lately. She believed that King “felt worse than anybody ever could” after the performance and blamed the incident on King having a little too much to drink. King has yet to comment on the ordeal.
The Grand Ole Opry apologized for the language used during King’s performance. The tribute concert featured other country artists such as Terri Clark, Tigirlily Gold, Ashley Monroe, and Dailey.
Despite the incident, Parton continued to celebrate her birthday by releasing the deluxe edition of her rock covers album ‘Rockstar’ and sharing new versions of “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” by the Eurythmics and “The Entertainer” by Billy Joel. NME called the album “bursting with life and positivity” in their four-star review of the album, which became Parton’s highest-charting album to date
