R&B superstar Usher brought out Alicia Keys during his performance at the halftime show of the 58th Super Bowl in Las Vegas. Defending champions, the Kansas City Chiefs went up against the San Francisco 49ers in the football spectacle. The halftime show started with backing dancers and performers dressed glamorously akin to Las Vegas-style costumes. Usher appeared on stage, cladded in white, with Keys joining him early on in the performance.
Usher focused on pulling in songs from his album Confessions, and his collaboration with Keys in 2004 ‘My Boo’. Keys began by performing a clip of her successful song ‘If I Ain’t Got You’ before performing ‘My Boo’ with Usher. The Super Bowl Halftime Show is known for its star-studded guest list, and Usher was no different as H.E.R. joined him on guitar while Will.i.am graced the stage during ‘OMG’. Lil Jon also appeared on stage where he belted out a snippet of his successful song ‘Turn Down For What’ and joined Ludacris and Usher for ‘Yeah!’ which closed the performance.
Despite the release of his latest album ‘Coming Home’ last week, Usher did not perform any songs from the album as expected. Neither did Justin Bieber make an appearance, although he was spotted in Las Vegas ahead of the game. Among his plans for the halftime show, Usher shared during an interview with Good Morning America, plans to honor Black musical legacy at the event. He disclosed that the display would feature a costume change, skating, and “ killer choreography.”
