Paramore confirm themselves as “freshly independent” and ambassadors for Record Store Day 2024

Paramore have declared they are now independent and will act as this year’s ambassador for Record Store Day. In December 2023, Paramore admitted there was uncertainty surrounding the future of the band. The final album on their contract, called “This Is Why”, was released last year, meaning that they had fulfilled their obligations to their previous label, Atlantic. Shortly after, Paramore wiped all their social media accounts, prompting speculation that the band was over.

However, today, they confirmed that they are “freshly independent” and will remain together to make music. In an Instagram post, the band wrote, “After a long career in the music industry we have decided to announce that… we are going to continue to have a long career in the music industry (sorry for any inconvenience).”

As a freshly independent band, their first order of business is to shine a light on independent record stores, which played a pivotal role in their journey from music-besotted school friends to professional music creators. For this reason, they humbly accepted the role of the Record Store Day 2024 ambassadors, an event which will occur on April 20.

“The discovery of music was always meant to be romantic,” they continued. “Indie record shops are some of the only places that offer a tangible, tactile experience of music discovery. In this world that feels more disconnected and hostile than ever, it feels important to remain in touch (literally) with what inspires us, empowers us, or simply brings us joy. Thankfully, there still survives among the chaos, the purity and radical simplicity of a great record store.” They signed off by saying, “Independently yours, Paramore”.

New information about a forthcoming Paramore album is not yet available, but SZA verified that a Paramore collaboration was in development. In addition, they currently have a new cover of “Burning The House Down” on the upcoming “This Is Why” Talking Heads tribute album, which includes 16 covers from 16 different bands.

Paramore also recently won the Grammy for Best Rock Album, becoming the first female-fronted band to do so. They acknowledged that it was “ridiculous yet true.” On social media, they wrote, “It’s an honor for Paramore to be a small but constant reminder for people to keep pushing these rock and alternative spaces to be more inclusive.”

Finally, Paramore will be supporting Taylor Swift on the UK/EU leg of her Eras tour – all dates can be found on their band’s website
