André 3000 says Ludacris “took” his role in ‘2 Fast 2 Furious’

André 3000 has disclosed that he tried out for a part in 2 Fast 2 Furious but missed out on the role to Ludacris. The OutKast rapper and solo performer spoke about his efforts to join the Fast & Furious franchise during an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. As part of the ‘Colbert Questionert’ section, 3000 was asked to divulge his favourite action film of all time.

Colbert then pressed the musician otherwise known as André Benjamin on why he had not featured in one of the Fast & Furious films, to which he retorted: “I would have, but I think Ludacris took the role.” Benjamin was referring to Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges’ character Tej Parker, who was introduced to the series in 2 Fast 2 Furious in 2003. The musician and actor has subsequently starred in six additional F&F titles, with the most recent being Fast X in 2023.

“I really did audition. I tried out for Fast & Furious, and Ludacris took the role,” Benjamin continued before affirming that he was “not at all” resentful or angry about losing out. “I wasn’t ready,” he added. “I recall that audition. I was extremely nervous. I wouldn’t have hired myself.” Nevertheless, Benjamin stated that he was willing to join the F&F universe at a later date.

He subsequently suggested a possible film name, ‘Flute & Furious’, which recognizes his recently released solo album New Blue Sun.
