Thomas Vinterberg, the director of the Danish film Another Round, has shared his excitement about Chris Rock directing the American remake. In an interview with Danish publication Ekstra Bladet, Vinterberg expressed his anticipation to see what Rock does with his version of the 2021 Oscar-winning drama. Despite not mentioning if he was involved with the American remake in any way, Vinterberg offered Rock a word of caution by stating that if the remake is not good, he’ll get “slapped again.”

Stuart Bloomberg has written an initial draft for the American version of the film, with another writer being reportedly hired to assist Rock. Vinterberg’s version starred Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Bo Larsen, Magnus Millang, and Lars Ranthe as four high school teachers testing the theory that maintaining a constant level of inebriation throughout the workday can boost creativity and happiness.

The rights to Another Round were sold to Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company, Appian Way, in 2021 following the film’s success at the Oscars, where it won Best International Film. However, no casting decisions have been announced yet.

In other news, Chris Rock is reportedly collaborating with Steven Spielberg on a new Martin Luther King Jr. biopic based on the author Jonathan Eig’s biography, King: A Life. According to Variety, Rock is in final negotiations to direct and produce the adaptation, while Spielberg will executive produce the project. The Universal Pictures are thought to be on board for the film
