Comedian Bill Maher stated that he would not air his two-hour interview with Kanye West, as he referred to the rapper as “a very charming antisemite.” Maher, who had recorded an episode with the ‘No More Parties In LA’ artist for his Club Random podcast, shared the decision in an interview for TMZ‘s TMZ Investigates series. Maher explained that he believed the two of them were going to learn from one another when they sat down for the interview. However, he quickly realized that West was indeed an antisemite and decided not to air the interview due to West’s beliefs.
Maher stated that he had an enjoyable time with West, but that “He’s a very charming antisemite. And by the way, he’s not the only one in America who feels that way.” Harvey Levin, the founder of TMZ, added to the conversation, remarking that a lot of people probably thought like West did, but West’s words, said out loud, gave others permission to speak them too. Maher agreed with him and indicated that airing the episode would only contribute to spreading ideas that he disagreed with, explaining that older people were wise enough to see through West’s antisemitism, but young people were more prone to believe and perpetuate it.
West was first accused of antisemitism in October 2022, which resulted in the suspension of his accounts on both Twitter and Instagram. He apologised to the Jewish community for his previous antisemitic remarks in December 2022. West shared an apology written in Hebrew, which translated into English and stated that he did not intend to hurt or disrespect anyone, and he deeply regretted any hurt he may have caused.
In other news, West recently released a new song with Ty Dolla $ign titled ‘Talking/Once Again’, which features his daughter North West in the music video. Despite the uproar surrounding his views, West continues to produce popular music and remains a controversial figure in the entertainment world. Maher’s decision not to air the interview with West underscores the comedian’s strong views on avoiding spreading hatred and promoting critical thinking
