New evidence has been presented during the Emma Caldwell murder trial linking a van used by the accused to the site where her body was found. The High Court in Glasgow heard that an expert from the Netherlands Forensic Institute carried out a comparison of soil samples. Dr Stefan Uitdehaag reported the samples from the forest where Ms Caldwell’s body was discovered and the van both contained the same types and quantities of pollen. He concluded that it was “much more likely” that the samples came from the same location.
Iain Packer has been charged with the murder of Ms Caldwell, 27, who was found in Limefield Woods in South Lanarkshire in early April 2005. The 51-year-old pleads not guilty to all charges. He has denied murdering Ms Caldwell, dumping her body, and a range of other charges involving 46 women in total.
